NOTICE – Information on ARERA Resolution 20/2026 Regarding the January 2026 Severe Weather Emergency in Sicily, Sardinia, and Calabria: Suspension of Payments and Relief Measures
In compliance with the provisions of ARERA (Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and Environment) and the Civil Protection Department Chief’s Decree no. 1180, notice is hereby given of the extraordinary measures introduced to support populations affected by the exceptional weather events that occurred starting from January 18, 2026, in the territories of the Sicily, Sardinia, and Calabria regions (Cyclone Harry).
1. Who is eligible for the relief?
The suspension of payments is reserved for holders of supply contracts (Electricity and Natural Gas) located in the Municipalities identified in the Annex to Decree 1180, whose utilities serve:
- Homes or production sites that have been destroyed (totally or partially).
- Homes or production sites evacuated in execution of measures issued by municipal authorities following the aforementioned events.
2. What does the relief consist of?
- Suspension of payments: Payment deadlines for invoices due starting from January 18, 2026, are suspended for a period of 6 months (until July 18, 2026).
- What is included: The suspension covers consumption charges, as well as fees for connection, activation, transfer of ownership (voltura), and takeover (subentro).
- Protection against default: During this period, supply suspension procedures for non-payment will not be applied, even if they relate to debts incurred prior to January 18, 2026.
3. How to submit a request
To benefit from the suspension, eligible parties must submit a Statutory Declaration (Dichiarazione Sostitutiva di Atto Notorio, pursuant to Presidential Decree d.P.R. 445/00) certifying the damage or evacuation of the property. This must be done using the attached Form A (or a document containing its minimum required content) by April 30, 2026, through one of the following channels:
- For retail customers: clienti@dufercoenergia.com, or (certified email/PEC) clienti.dufercoenergia@pec.duferco.it
- For condominium managers: serviziocondomini@dufercoenergia.com, or (certified email/PEC) serviziocondomini@pec.duferco.it
- For third-sector customers: terzosettore@dufercoenergia.com, or (certified email/PEC) terzosettore@pec.duferco.it
- Regular mail: Duferco Energia S.p.A. – Via Paolo Imperiale 4 – 16126 GENOVA
4. What happens at the end of the suspension period?
At the end of the 6-month period, affected customers will receive a communication containing a proposal for the automatic installment plan of the suspended amounts, under the following terms:
- Minimum duration: 12 months.
- Costs: The installment plan is interest-free for the customer.
- Minimum threshold: The installment plan does not apply to total amounts under 50 euros.
- Frequency: Installments will follow the same billing cycle as regular invoices.
Please Note: Customers always retain the right to waive the suspension and/or the subsequent installment plan and proceed with payment under regular terms, or to request an installment plan of a shorter duration. Paying regularly, whenever possible, helps avoid the accumulation of large outstanding amounts in the following months.
If, in the meantime, an automatic direct debit has been charged to the customer’s bank account, the charge can be rejected by contacting their bank.
