PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In 2023 Duferco Mobility Srl, together with Duferco Energia S.p.A. and South Pole (a leading company in the field of climate change mitigation projects), began the process of implementing a project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and consequent generation of voluntary carbon credits, through the installation and activation of about 400 Quick recharging stations by Duferco Mobility. These columns will be of two types: Type 2 (2 charging points of 22 kW) and Type 3 (2 charging points of 22kW + 2 charging points of 3.5 kW). The approximately 400 recharging stations that make up the carbon project are part of an extensive internal infrastructure project (approximately 2,000 recharging points).
The project to reduce emissions and generate voluntary carbon credits will be implemented based on the Verra VM0038 methodology and will be registered in the Verra registry.

From the development of the project, the community will gain benefits such as

  • incentive for the transition to electricity through a widespread diffusion of infrastructure throughout the country;
  • potential reduction, during the 10-year project period, of about 75.000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2eq).

What are voluntary carbon credits?
A voluntary carbon credit represents one tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2eq) that has been removed or avoided through the development of an independently verified climate change mitigation project. These credits can be purchased by individuals, companies, organisations, etc. who wish to offset their CO2 emissions or in reputational terms for mitigation activities beyond their own value chain. The purchase of the credit represents for project developers a financial support to the project itself, while for purchasers it is equivalent to offsetting a tonne of CO2 that would have otherwise burdened their sustainability report.
Who is Verra?
Verra is now one of the largest international Standard Bodies issuing voluntary carbon credits through regular verification audits of projects presents in its registry. Through a rigorous standard, which is always being updated, and specific methodologies, project proponents can carry out climate change mitigation works that reduce or remove tonnes of CO2 equivalent. To date, Verra’s registry contains more than 2.100 registered projects in different areas of the world.
What are the requirements for registering a project in the Verra registry?

A project generating voluntary carbon credits can be implemented if it meets the following conditions:

  1. follows the rules imposed by the Standard;
  2. it surpasses the eligibility conditions of the methodology identified for the realisation of the project;
  3. it passes the additionality condition, i.e. the condition verifying that the project without the generation of carbon credits would not have been carried out.
What is the VM0038 methodology used for?
Methodology developed by Standard Body Verra, which evaluates the potential reduction in CO2 equivalent emissions resulting from an increased substitution of thermal vehicles with electric vehicles and/or plug-in hybrids. This substitution will potentially be generated through the development of an increased supply of charging stations for electric vehicles compared to business-as-usual.
